Should you find yourself in the mood for a no-nonsense local bar where you can rock out a little bit and get a reasonable buzz on, Montrose Saloon is at your service. During the summer months, you’ve got the option to drink with your friends at a picnic table on the giant patio out back. The cocktails aren’t weak, the domestic beers are cold, and the bartenders won’t flinch if you order shots of well liquor.
I paid a $15 cover to sit inside for the music. More than I expected, but I'm game to support local music. The doorman asked me to name the band that brought me out. I didn’t know the name of my friend’s co-worker’s band that drew me to Montrose so I ventured my best (yet ultimately incorrect) guess. I got a stamp on my hand and soon I was sitting at a table with a cold Coors Light in my other hand. I’d arrived late on the Montrose 78 bus, thereby missing the set I was invited to see. No matter, the next two bands provided plenty of rock ‘n’ roll. The final group, a family band, traveled all the way from Peoria…or was it Rockford? I had several Coors Lights. We had a great time. The sound was prominent but not overwhelming. We could talk loudly and bop our heads. Sitting at a table, beer in hand, watching a random band is a crucial life experience. Montrose Saloon is a good place to have that type of night. The world needs bars like Montrose Saloon. Highly recommend. Will return.
